Project 11-2

In this project, the things needed is a window operating system that supports NTFS format. NTFS allows encryption and compression while FAT file system does not support it. NTFS support the encryption called as "Encrypting File System". Normally user will just activate it at the advanced attributes while the encryption and decryption is transparent to the user.
Things to take note when making an encryption folder for securing private information:
  1. Any new files that is being inserted into a encryption folder will automatically be encrypted.
  2. Do not encrypt the entire drive that contains system folder, this could decrease performance and may cause system not to boot up.
  3. Folder can either be compress or encrypted but not both.
  4. Moving NTFS files to a FAT drive, will automatically remove the encryption.

How to encrypt a folder:

  1. Create an folder/file
  2. Right Click and select properties on the desired folder/file
  3. Go "Advance"
  4. Tick "Encrypt contents to secure data"
  5. Click "Ok"

Securing your folder/file may result in reduce of performance when you are opening anything that is already encrypted. This happen because it take time for the folder/file to be decrypt before it can be loaded, thus encrypting things like games and editing software may result in slow performance. Encrypting save log or text information will be better.
